Our Mission

One to One Mentoring empowers youth in San Miguel County to achieve their social, emotional, and academic potential through professionally supported mentor relationships.

“One to One provides youth with an opportunity to build a life-long relationship with a committed, caring adult within the Telluride community.  Mentors provide academic support, foster responsibility, teach life-skills, and expose them to cultural experiences throughout the year.”  -- Ashley Williamson, ELL Specialist at Telluride Intermediate School

Frequently Asked Question

Why is mentoring important?

Research has shown that the single most important factor in a child’s success is his or her connection to a caring adult. A landmark study funded by the Harvard School of Public Health reported “that young people with mentors: felt more competent about their ability to do well in school; reported more positive relationships with friends and parents; had better attitudes toward school and the future; and had better attitudes toward their family and communities.”  In addition, the study found that kids with mentors were 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs, 27% less likely to begin using alcohol, and 52% less likely to skip school. http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/research/chc/harvard-mentoring-project/
